Senna
Chapter One- Locked Doors
...Detective Cross eyed the woman before him over his folded fingers; "So.. what brings you here Mrs. Edge?"
Mrs.Edge shock, her face pinched forward in anger and unrealistic feelings, her blue eyes sharpen as she stared Cross down; "You Know Why I'm here..Don't act so Smart and Give it to me!!" She shouted, slamming her hands on top of Cross' desk.
John flinched and reach inside his pocket for the handle of his gun, but Cross just lifted one of his folded his hands and waved John down. Calmly, he stood until he was looking down at the white blond of Mrs.Edge's head; "No need to get angry dear..Yes I do know what you want but it's more realistic to ask nicely for things you want?"
Mrs.Edge glared at the Detective's chest and shot forward a hand to the man's throat, at the same time as a gun was push into her head by John. But Mrs.Edge, if she cared about the cold object pushing into her hair..paid it no interest as she tighten her hold on Cross' neck. The click of a finger on a trigger pulled her attention to John, who eyed her with true hate; but again Cross waved John down and eyed the woman.
"Is this really how you want this to go.." He asked kindly, as Mrs.Edge flinched and slowly lowered her hands.
"I just want the truth..give me my Father's folder...Please.." She added quickly, as she eyed John still raised gun.
Cross nodded and lowered his raised hand to the desk's drawer and slowly pulled it out, but stopped as he saw the yellow of the folder.
"Before I hand this over dear..may I offer some words to you.." Mrs.Edge just glared but said nothing, for the sliver of the gun stood out against the darkness of the room; and she nodded.
Cross took out the folder and hold it out like a token of thanks to the woman, "I am a Detective dear, My job is simple. I must find out the truth..no matter the outcome. I must throw open every closet and pull out every dirty bone..but some truths are hidden behind locked doors. Sometimes humans hide things inside there minds..from others and even themselves..knowing that to even open them would not just ruin their life's but the life's of many around them..and they can never just throw the truths back behind the door..This folder is liked that..as a Detective no matter the outcome I must open the doors.."
Mrs.Edge took the folder quickly and rushed for the open door, and froze as the detective's last words echoed around the room, like the un shot bullet resting inside John's gun..
"SENNA!!!!"
The scene of the dark room faded into printed black words on paper as a teenage girl was throw out her fantasy and into reality.
Looking up from the book she had been reading, Senna sighed as her mother's calls broke the fantasy world she had lay in for the last hour.
'Just when I was getting to Cross' best LINE!!' She sighed again as she slowly closed the worn down novel sitting in her pale hands, "WHAT MOM?" She called out, slapping her head around to face her bedroom door, her long black hair swinging, and one of her hands when to push down the brown front on top of her head.
Suddenly her bedroom door was throw open, and a happy looking woman stood in the door way, making her way across the dark room to come face to face with her unusual child.
'Really me and Mom..look nothing alike' Senna noted again, as she had been doing all her life at the many differences between her and her family;Senna had raven black hair, with a brown top well her mother and father both had black hair theirs weren't as dark as her and neither parent had the crescent brown that top her head.
Senna was very pale white and thin, both her parents were tan and well fit; She had dark soulless black eyes with sleeping bags under them(Which was odd as she did get a lot of sleep).
But it wasn't just in appearances where she was different; well both her parents were smart people her IQ was off the charts, she sat in odd positions, loved to read about old crimes, and a had very high sense of justice. But of this the oddest fact about her was her obsession with cake and sweets.
The same though that had hunted her as long as she could remember echoed again in her young head. Why was it that she was so different? It was normal for a parents kids to be a little different from them..but wasn't she a bit to different? And the worst of all was the feeling she always had..that feeling that she wasn't connected to the people she had know as her parents for years..
'What am I thinking about!? Of Course my Mom and Dad are my parents! And if I was adopted they would have told me by now!! I'm sixteen years old for god's sense..' And with a nod the questions that burn on the corner of her mind where throw behind a door in her mind and locked.
"...Senna..dear..ARE YOU EVEN LISTENING TO ME?!"
Senna was shocked out her thoughts and back to reality, as she turned her attention on her Mother..who didn't look happy..
"Of course I was listening Mother..." Senna reported in her monotone voice, staring unblinking at her mother.
"Really?" Her Mother asked, standing up straight(as she had bend forward to talk to child face to face), "Then what was I saying just now?"
'Shit.' Senna moaned, she was never good at lying, specially to her mother that could read through everything..even through she talked in monotone and never let out that she wasn't being truthful.
Lending a little on her bare feet, Senna sighed, "Sorry Mother..I was just thinking..What were you saying?"
"Well..first off..Why do you sit like that? I mean..it doesn't look all that comfortable."
Senna was sitting very odd, well accounting to normal people anyway, for her it was the most comfortable position to sit in. She sat without her bottom touching the chair, she sat with her legs pulled up and balanced her feet.
"I like sitting like this." She answered, like many times before for her Mom's endless questions about they way she sat. Bringing her thumb to her pale lips Senna added, "It helps me think".
And what she was thinking right now was that she wasn't going to like what her Mother had to say. 99% of the time her parents left her be when she was reading, and that 1% of the time they didn't was to bring news of...No. Way.
"Mother..We'll going to Grandma's aren't we." She asked in her usual monotone, through her insides screamed in horror. She hated it at her grandparents. HATED it.
'Perhaps I'm wrong..maybe Mother came up during my reading time for another reason!' But no other percents flowed into her head and the doom sealed itself when her Mother nodded to her question.
"...Please tell me your kidding.." Senna grasped on the last hope in her mind but her mother's glare killed it.
"No, I'm not kidding.. What do you have against going to your grandmothers?"
'A lot of things Mother..' She through, but was smart enough to know not to say this aloud, that the reason she didn't want to go was simple. Her Grandparents hated her.
But Senna didn't say this to her mother, as she once did and her mother reply had been, "What are you talking about Senna? Of Course your Nanny loves you!"
Senna snorted at the memory. Oh yes, getting glared and called a demon is the highest form of love.
"Are you reading that again?" Her Mother's voice came through, Senna could tell that this was her Mother's attempt at a conversation and went with, in hopes of changing her Mom's mind and staying home.
"Yes..." Senna answered, and fingered the cover of her book, written in large red letters was the title that she had long sense known. 'Rotten Apple'.
Her Mother sighed happily, "Isn't this your sixth time reading that book?"
"Tenth time actual, and I was just getting to my favorite line...and you know how much I love this book.."
Senna waited in hope that her Mother would nod and leave her to her reading, but sadly her Mom just laughed, "Nice try sweetie but your going to Grandma's..and put on some nicer clothes too.."
"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" Senna asked, waving a hand at her to-big-for-her blue pants and white sweat-shirt.
"Can you please just put on that lovely outfit your Dad brought you? Please for me?"
'Stupid puppy eyes..they always get me.' Senna growled to herself, as her mother left the room and left her to change.
When Senna had been a child of four she had loved car rides, in her four-year mind car rides equal a trip, be it to the ice cream store or to go visit her Father at work. The feeling of the wind through the window, the loud bombing of the radio and the sweet taste of the ice cream, when they went to the ice cream store. But the love of car rides faded. As a child she had loved going to her Grandma's. Through even at four she noticed the coldness in her nanny's eyes, the unwillingness to hug her. By the time she had turned six and hear from her nan's own mouth that she hated her, she had already known.
'God..I hate Car rides' Senna sighed, as she pulled at the shiny pink shirt her Mother had forced her in. She turned her attention to the moving scenes outside her window, trying not to think of what lay ahead at her Mother's family home. She could almost see the hateful eyes of her nan, eying her like she was the devil itself and her cruel step-grandfather cruel jokes that cut through her like knifes.
'Why is it that both of my parents never notice the way they treat me! They treat me like I'm some kind of animal!' Senna sighed, what was the point of thinking about it? What was the point of wondering what she had done in her short life to get her grandparents to hate her so much? But she couldn't help wanting answers. It was just the way she was. But these weren't the only answers she didn't have..Like the answer to who in the world Light was..
"We're here!!" Her Father cheerful announced. As there car pulled in front of a average small Japanese home. Slowly, and against herself, Senna got out of the car in time to see her grandparents leave there home to greet them. She told bend over(as she usual stood), and waited for her grandparents to take notice that there grandchild was also there.
"Oh..Senna...How pretty you look in pink.." Her nan said as a greeting and rush forward and quickly hugged her and let go just as quickly; as if afraid that touching Senna for too long would kill her.
"Stop standing like that!" Growled out her pop as a greeted, but sadly her mother and father had already entered the house not hearing the very clear hate in his voice.
Senna said nothing, and walk through the open door.
'This is going to be a long day.'
It had only been a hour and Senna was ready to yell and brake things. Both things very uncharacteristic of her usual non-caring mood. But she wasn't really in wrong for feeling like this. Every time her parents left the room for something, her nan and pop would take turns making fun of her appearance and wondering out loud if her parents were planning to have another child that would like.
'This is just getting to be abuse' But like all the times before that her Grandparents said to her, Senna just locked the pain away behind her door, and sat and smile. She of course would never tell her parents what her grandparents said to her..They would act in denial about it and her mother would laugh and say that Senna was just 'in the age' of acting out.
"So Sayu, How's your new novel coming honey?" Senna's Grandmother asked suddenly, as the group sat in the large living room.
Sayu(Senna's Mother); paused as she was raising her cup of tea to her mouth, "It's going well Mom, I almost have it all written, I can only hope that my most important reader..Senna likes it as much as the novel Rotten apple." She teased, smiling at Senna; who sat in her favorite position and hadn't spoke a single word since walking through the front door.
"I'm sure I love it Mom, I liked it so far." Senna spoke truthfully, her Mother was a very good writer and she found that she couldn't help but slip into her world of fantasy when reading her words; "But you know Mom that nothing in this world can beat my obsession with Rotten Apple."
Both her parents laughed(through Senna noticed that neither her grandparents had.)
"Oh, yes..you and that book. It was that influence that has you wanting to become a detective instead of cop huh?" Her father said cheerfully, the smile that never left his lips, seemed to grow even more.
"Yes it was, but I always had a sense of high justice father, and I love reading up on your old cases and trying to find the criminal.." Senna froze, as she remembered that she wasn't just talking to her loving parents(who had long sense supported her dream), but her grandparents were here and they didn't look happy at the stuff that was coming out of Senna's mouth.
"A detective?" Came her Grandpas reply. His cold gray eyes beating down on her, "And your letting her look through your own cases Matsuda? Isn't that foolish..No girl should be a detective.."
"FATHER!" Sayu cried in shock, "Woman can work at whatever they wish. If my little girl wants to be a Detective I'll support her!!! I don't want to hear those Sexist comments again..or I leave Father."
At that moment Senna come truly say that this was very proud of her parents. She loved them both so much, and was glad to see that they both were glared at her worst enemies(Aka her Grandparents).
Her grandmother had said nothing, but lowered her own cup of tea and stared her own child down, "I think what your step-father was meaning to say is that perhaps that isn't the best job for her."
Senna could sense a fight about to brake out, as her eyes shock back from her Mother/father's angry faces and her Grandmother's pinched one.
"And What do you mean by that?"
Senna's eye widen. Could today be the day that her Grandparents would finally slip up and they evilness out for her parents to see? Would she never have to hear there horrible comments again?
"Senna..Could please leave..we need to talk with Nan and Pop, Okay?" Her father suddenly said.
Senna could only nod as she quickly left, as she shut the door the sound of yelling came out.
"Yes..the truth is out." Senna said cheerfully. Now she was sure of it. Her Mother and Father would learn the truth, about the horrible things that they said to her. She knew this because 99% of the time her Grandfather (when angry) would yell out something he didn't mean to say out loud.
"I will never have to come back here again." Senna said out loud, allowing a smile to grow on her usual emotionless face.
As she turned to walk to the kitchen in hopes to find cake to celebrate a loud yell made her stop.
"YES, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT!! THAT GIRL IS MONSTER!! I WOULDN'T LET A GIRL LIKE THAT ANYWHERE NEAR A CRIME SCENE!! NO! DON'T YELL AT ME!! YOU KNOW WHAT I SAY IS TRUE!! SHE WASN'T EVEN BORN NORMAL!!"
'What?' Questions that Senna had asked herself all her life came forward at that moment. What did her Pop mean..She hadn't been born normal?
There was a voice in her head that told her to forget what she head and go get some cake. What her Parents/Grandparents were yelling was no value to her. But she remained, and stood closer to the closed/locked door (Her father must have locked it after she left the room).
"Father!! DON'T SAY THOSE THINGS ABOUT MY CHILD!!!!" Came her mother's voice, full of anger that Senna had never heard before.
"YOUR CHILD.." The next few words were cut out by a sound of shock and her Father's deadly calm voice, "Don't yell such things..what if Senna heard us?"
Now that was interesting. What was so important that she couldn't hear it?
Senna suddenly remember the novel 'Rotten apple' and the part she had been reading before coming here.
'Could it be that Mom and Dad are hiding something from me? That they have there own locked door?"
"We're leaving and we're not ever coming back..I can't believe this Mother..how could you do and say those things to your Grandchild?"
'So they have learned the truth huh?' Senna though, but at that moment she wanted answers so there was no room to celebrate.
"I said those things because my husband is right..Senna is a.."
"Don't even FINISH THAT SENTENCE MOTHER!!!"
"WHY? WHY SHOULD WE CARE.. IF SHE CAN HEAR THIS SHE SHOULD KNOW!! THE TRUE REASON WE HATE HER!!
"STOP THIS!"
"NO!! THAT LITTLE MONSTER!! OF WHICH NO WOMAN GAVE BIRTH!! SHE A LIVING BREATHING SIN!"
Everything, even the air in her lungs seemed to freeze as Senna stared at the door.
"..What.." Her mind echoed what she had just heard..it couldn't possiable..she has always wondered if her parents were really her parents but this..this had to be dream..
"No..This can't be real." But it was. And Senna felt her world fall apart after the next words from her grandfather's mouth. The words that made her wished that she had gone to the kitchen, or better yet at home with her book..Why or why had she stayed to learn? Why did she need to open that locked door of her parents to see the truth?
"That Girl..was the product of your Brother's dealing with some Detective..A MALE one..And your telling me that she's normal?"
Senna stood there as the answers she had always wanted came finally. Her Parents..She wasn't like them because..they weren't her parents..her Grandparents hated her because she was the product of homosexuality(as impossible as that was..as far as Senna knew Man couldn't give birth but her grandpa never lied.) She had her answer but she wished with all her heart that she was back to the time when she had just questions..
The scene from her novel returned to her..as she stood shocked and sadden by the words that had shattered her world and would set her forward into a world of pain..lost..death..and a little black notebook.
....
Mrs.Edge took the folder quickly and rushed for the open door, and froze as the detective's last words echoed around the room, like the un shot bullet resting inside John's gun..
"Sometimes my dear it's better for locked doors..to remain locked."
